Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, has announced that two solar-related manufacturers in Niagara Falls, Globe Specialty Metals and Precision Electro Minerals, will receive low-cost power from the New York Power Authority to help promote the state's new $30 million solar-energy initiative.

"By providing low-cost power to manufacturers throughout our region, we can help to create jobs and attract new businesses to the area," Ceretto said. "This low-cost power is not only paying dividends locally, it is also helping to make New York greener, which will help save taxpayer dollars and lower energy costs for businesses and families."

The renewable energy initiative that the Niagara Falls companies are helping to build is part of a five-year program that seeks to fund solar-energy research, training and demonstration projects. The goal is to bring down the cost of solar-power generation so it will gain wider use.

"Niagara Falls has tremendous energy resources that must continue to be built upon to help grow our region's economy and create more jobs," Ceretto said. "Low-cost power will help boost this growth and make Niagara Falls businesses more competitive."
