Did you enjoy looking for Easter eggs when you were a child? Perhaps you are still a child at heart?

If so, you should join forces with kindred spirits in a small community with a big heart, as Wilson hosts its first-ever community Easter celebration known as "The Hunt." It takes place Easter Sunday, April 8, and the whole Village of Wilson is the setting for this madcap adventure. There will be eggs hidden all around town and it will take agility, teamwork and determination to find them all.

The action begins at 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Wilson First Baptist Church, 265 Pettit St. Once there, young and old alike will join forces on one of two teams with several posses for even more fun.

According to event organizer, church Pastor Stephen Hay, the object of the game is to follow a map with coordinates and complete a series of challenges, collecting Easter eggs along the way as bounty. The challenges are full of hilarious hijinks and will keep you in stitches as you go. After completing the course all of the participants, as well as everyone else, is invited to come to the Wilson Fire Hall parking lot where the spectacular finale will take place and the "Champions of The Hunt" will be crowned. Free Sahlen's hot dogs and a variety of tasty salads will be served at the Wilson firehall, 250 Young St., beginning at 4:30 p.m. Hand-clapping, toe-tapping, soul-searching, live music and a special Easter message will round out the evening.

"This event is the first for our little town, but there is going to be nothing little about it," said Hay.  He said he wanted to hold this event throughout Wilson to bring the whole community together to celebrate Easter. As the title suggests, "The Hunt" is not your run-of-the-mill church service. In fact, you might not recognize it as a "service" at all, says Hay. He points out he has encouraged his flock to think outside the box when it comes to spreading the good news of the gospel to the community and beyond.

Creating an outdoor festival has not been an easy task, and event planners give a lot of thanks to the many individuals and organizations for their assistance. The town and village of Wilson and the Wilson Volunteer Fire Co. have all joined in to make this event a possibility. FBC's own Tom Keefer, sound specialist for Yorkville Sound, is in charge of the outdoor sound equipment that will make it possible for everyone to enjoy all of the music and more.

"The Hunt" is a free public event and everyone is encouraged to attend, including regular church folk and those who have never darkened the door of a church. Hay purposely planned this festival to be held outdoors, right in the center of Wilson, so if someone was walking or driving by, they might be courageous enough to drop in and see what all of the excitement is about. Hay hopes that those who attend will leave with the thought, "I don't remember church being like this before!"

Those attending "The Hunt" are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and to dress for the weather. Participant registration and more information about "The Hunt" can be found on the church's website, www.wilsonfbc.org, or find Wilson First Baptist Church on Facebook.
