Press release

Starting April 3, there will be some exciting new changes at the OH! Gallery in Lewiston. The Lewiston Council on the Arts has announced that "Tuscarora and Friends"  plans to expand its presence at the OH! Gallery.

Internationally known artists Rosemary Hill, Karen Hodge Russell, Erwin Printup and Simon Brascoupé will lead "Tuscarora and Friends". They will take responsibility for staffing, exhibition of art works, redesign of the existing gallery space and day-to-day management of the gallery.

All four artists, designers, and educators are published and have many accomplishments to add to their experience and expertise. They are passionate advocates of the arts and are excited to have this opportunity within the Lewiston community.
The Lewiston Council on the Arts will continue its collaboration with the Tuscarora and Friends Gallery through support of art activities, exhibits and events. The OH! Gallery will raise the visibility of outstanding regional artists and build cultural and historical awareness among the public.

"Tuscarora and Friends" plans to expand needed arts programs in the Western New York area by developing workshops, demonstrations, educational events, speakers and highlighting individual artists from the existing gallery and the Tuscarora community. A communal approach to the arts will provide an opportunity to engage Tuscarora and local artists and cultures.

The LCA said "Tuscarora and Friends" is a unique jewel that reunites the longstanding relationship between the Tuscarora people and the Village of Lewiston.

"We are pleased to have the OH! Gallery transformed under the leadership and direction of 'Tuscarora and Friends,' " said Irene Rykaszewski, LCA executive director. "The gallery will now provide a much-needed presence for Native American artists in the community and a unique opportunity to share Native culture and history."
