Ontario Opposition Leader Tim Hudak stopped short of telling the Niagara Parks Commission to approve the proposed wirewalk over the Horseshoe Falls by daredevil Nik Wallenda. But Hudak did say he'd probably be in the audience with his 4-year-old daughter if it happens.
"There are 1,600 delegates here in the Falls; I think if (Wallenda) went across ... you'd have a really big crowd here in Niagara. I'd probably take my daughter to see it as well."
Hudak, MPP for Niagara West-Glanbrook, was speaking to reporters late Friday afternoon in the lobby of the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, site of this weekend's provincial Progressive Conservative Party convention. Surrounded by his entire caucus, he fielded a number of general questions on the timing for the next election and his own standing with the party following last October's loss to the Liberals (he faces a leadership review and vote today) before wading into issues related to the Parks Commission.
He slammed the Parks as a bloated bureaucracy that doesn't do enough to promote tourism in Niagara, citing as evidence the protracted debate over Wallenda and the outstanding issue of the lease for the boat tours in the lower Niagara River.
