Lewiston Public Library January programs and events

The Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the Village of Lewiston, announces the following programs, events and activities for the month of January.

Events

•Families with children are welcome to attend a "BRRRRRRR Day" Story Time, Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m. at the library. Featured will be winter crafts, stories and fun for a cold January day. Registration is required; call the library at 754-4720.

•New York State Parks will present a program on snowshoeing, on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 1:30 p.m. Participants will learn about the different types of snowshoes and practice outside. Dress for the weather. If there is not enough snow the library will reschedule the event. Registration is required to ensure enough snowshoes for all. Adults are welcome to attend.

Clubs and More

•The Lewiston Writers' Group will meet on Mondays, Jan. 9 and 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the library. For more information visit www.lewistonwritersgroup.com.

•The Dead Beats Society will meet on Monday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Local History Room. Call Michelle at the library, 754-4720, for details, or email at [email protected].

•Personal instructional genealogy appointments may be made on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Call the library, 754-4720, to arrange an appointment or email Michelle Kratts at [email protected].

•The Lewiston Book Club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 1:30 p.m. For further information, contact Anita Mallimo at 754-7714.

•Moms Book Chat will meet Thursday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. Discussed will be "The Cruel Ever After," by Ellen Hart.

•The Knitting Club meets every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is required and knitters of all skill levels are welcome. For more information contact Ellen Comerford at 754-4144.

•The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library maintain a used book room all year long; it's open during library hours. Items for sale include fiction, non-fiction and children's materials.

Weekly Story Time

•Alphabet Soup with Miss Ann, for children ages 3 to 5 will be held on Mondays, Jan. 9, 23 and 30, at 10:30 a.m.

•Lap sit story time with Miss Ann, is for children age birth to 23 months. It will be held on Wednesdays, Jan. 11, 18 and 25, at 9:30 a.m.

•Toddler hour with Miss Ann, for children ages 24 months to 3 years, will be held on Wednesdays, Jan. 11, 18 and 25, at 10:30 a.m.

•Story time with Mrs. Leardini, for children of all ages will take place on Thursdays, Jan. 12, 19 and 26, at 10:30 a.m.

•Tail Waggin' Tutors returns this month at the Lewiston Public Library. Parents, is your child an emerging reader, struggling to become fluent or great at it? Does your child like dogs? This is a program just for them.

Students join with certified therapy dogs at the library for a time of reading fun. Dogs in all shapes and sizes that love to listen to children read. The 20-minute reading session is a great way to help your child become a better reader.

Sessions will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m.; Monday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m.; Monday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 6 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m.; Monday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m.; and Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 6:30 p.m.
