Crosby's stores raise awareness and funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Crosby's, a division of Reid Group Inc. raised $10,000 to benefit the Western New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure during its month-long October breast cancer awareness promotion. Crosby's consists of 45 locations In Western New York into Northwestern Pennsylvania and has been in business since 1922. In October, Crosby's went "Pink for the Cure" at all of its locations.

•Crosby's sold pink ribbons, magnets, and coffee mugs donating all proceeds to the foundation.

•Crosby's brought in a batch of additional items including pink Lofthouse cookies, pink Seagram wine coolers, pink snow brushes, pink Tic Tac's. The companies distributing these donated a portion of the proceeds on a national level.

•Crosby's held a 'Pink the Store Decorating contest" in the month of October. The winner was the Westfield location.

•All signage and marketing material was pink during the month of October.

"Through the generosity of companies like Crosby's (Reid Group Inc.), their employees and patrons, we are able to provide funding across the eight counties of Western New York," said Jackie Mordaunt, executive director of the WNY Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Monies raised during breast cancer awareness month benefit the local community with 75 percent of funds staying right here in Western New York. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure grants program to fund breast cancer research throughout the country.

This year, the Western New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has invested more than $500,000 in small and community grants. The objective is to provide maximum return to support the mission of saving lives and ending breast cancer through education, screening and research.
