Part of Lower Mountain Road was temporarily closed Monday evening to allow cleanup of a diesel fuel spill after an injury accident involving a dump truck and a passenger vehicle.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, the accident was reported at 7:57 p.m. in the 3100 block of Lower Mountain Road. A vehicle driven by Tracey Dewitt of Lockport was eastbound and a dump truck driven by Randy Becken of Sanborn was parked across Lower Mountain Road attempting to back into a driveway. Dewitt struck the dump truck in the right rear wheel and the right side gas tank, causing the dump truck to leak approximately 40 gallons of diesel fuel.

Dewitt and a 14-year-old passenger where transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries. Becken was issued a ticket for inadequate lights on his dump truck.

The spill was quickly contained by the Pekin and the Cambria volunteer fire companies. The Niagara County Haz Mat team assisted the fire companies in containing the spill to the side of the road. Also responding was Tri-Community Ambulance.
