The I-190 near Porter and Packard roads was closed for about two hours early Monday after an acetylene tank inside a van at a construction site exploded and scattered debris on both sides of the road.

The Niagara County Sheriff's fire investigation team is investigating the fire, which might be of suspicious nature, according to State Police reports. The van was owned by CATCO Construction of Alden, which is working on replacing the I-190 overpass over Lockport Road.

Police and the Niagara Active Hose and Lewiston No. 2 volunteer fire departments responded to the construction site about 12:30 p.m. for a vehicle on fire. The van had been placed in front of a large shipping container in order to secure the doors of the container. The van was destroyed, but the container only received limited damage.
