Fall is in the air. It's time to taste the sixth annual Winetique Festival on Sunday, Oct. 16, in Sanborn.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co., 5811 Buffalo St., in the hamlet of Sanborn.

Winetique features wine tastings from select Niagara County vintners, antique and vendor showings, country rock and '60s classic music fare, and much more.

Hosted by the Sanborn Area Business and Professional Association in cooperation with the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, Winetique brings visitors from throughout the Niagara Frontier to the little community of Sanborn for an afternoon of socializing, sampling the region's best wines and partaking in its unique country appeal.

"The festival is a great way to support the local community and businesses within the town," said Bonnie Haskell, president of the business association and chairperson for the event. "It draws in a huge crowd every year."

"It's a really nice fall season event, great for the whole family," said Jennifer Pauly, president of the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce. "It helps to showcase the area."

Winetique is presented with support from Niagara County Community College, whose main campus is located in Sanborn, and by HSBC Bank USA.

Throughout the day Winetique visitors can enjoy a large selection of fine offerings from the Niagara Wine Trail, served by Schulze Winery and Niagara Landing. A few of the varieties include Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, Cabernet, Misty Niagara and Bubbling Wines.

Wine always goes well with food. Fear not - visitors can enjoy country delights, including grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, blooming onions, meatball subs, tasty clam chowder from the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co., and, for that sweet tooth, an assortment of pies.

"We always have a large variety of food," said Haskell.

The day also features live entertainment from the Colt 45 band and a performance by singer Tony Pedulla.

Formed eight years ago, Colt 45 is one Western New York's favorite country bands, playing a number of hits, such as "Sunny Side of the Streets," "Hellbound Train," and "God's Got Other Things to Do."

"Colt 45 always gets the audience on their feet," said Pauly.

Pedulla sings all genres, from Frank Sinatra to Tom Jones to Neil Diamond. He will be sure to have guests dancing while he sings classic oldies.

Also of interest that day will be a basket auction, a petting zoo for the little ones, a fair and a farmers market. Be sure to participate in this fun, free event, guaranteed to be a blast for the whole family.

"It's just a lot of fun," said Haskell. "We get a great turnout every year, from 3,000 to 4,000 people."

"It gives everyone something to do and it's definitely an alternative to watching the football games," joked Pauly.
