On Saturday morning, Sept. 24, three friends took time out of their busy lives to volunteer for the Riverkeepers Cleanup event that took place around Western New York. Sandy Vandusen, Jen Hinkle and Nancy Anderson volunteered their time at Buckhorn State Park and combed the river's edge in bushes and fields to clean up the park for a better environment. The big finds of the day were a tire and a rubber storage unit lid. How they got into the park is, of course, a mystery.  The trio volunteered their time in honor of Hinkle's daughter, Ashley Bleistein, who would normally volunteer for the cleanup, but is in Nicaragua serving in the Peace Corps. The volunteers thanked Larry Brooks from Riverkeepers, who was the leader of the cleanup at Buckhorn Park.
