If you have some old window frames laying around in the garage, the Lewiston Council on the Arts can use them for a new art "Frame Works" project set to benefit one of the most historic buildings in the village: the Lewiston Opera Hall at 736 Center St.

Here is a chance to show off your talent as well as help generate funds to keep the historic opera hall in good repair. Let your imagination and creativity go wild. Decorate an old window in whatever medium you want. Windows can be any size up to 6 feet and can be found "curb shopping" or at Buffalo Re-Use. Participants can use a window frame with or without the glass to create a variety of artistic décor. Stained-glass murals can be created in window frames or folks can make a stained-glass imitation using glass gels found in any craft store. One can paint or draw on paper, make a collage, create a mosaic tile design, embroider, needlepoint, or mixed media, using costume jewelry, feathers, ribbons or anything else that would be appropriate to display.

Deliver your work to the opera hall by Sunday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m. Windows will be on display at the Opera Hall (OH!) Gallery during the Lewiston Christmas Walk on Dec. 3 and 4. Until they are sold, pieces will be on exhibit for the month of December.

Twenty percent of the sale price will benefit the opera hall (or, if you're feeling generous, donate the entire proceeds of the sale). The preview exhibit and opening reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.

If you don't want to make art, but have old window frames that you don't need, feel free to drop them off at the LCA office at 475 Ridge St., Lewiston.
