Niagara Hospice has announced it will hold its third annual Nike Hospice Dash on Saturday, Sept. 24. Participants can choose between a 5K walk/run through Four Mile State Park or, new this year, a half marathon course beginning at Artpark.

The Hospice Dash is unique to other races due to its course run, which captures the beauty and the history of the Niagara River Region, report Hospice organizers. Along the shores of the Niagara River, runners pass many historic sights on their 13.1-mile run, including a loop inside Old Fort Niagara passing within feet of the French Castle.

Participants will enjoy a pre- and post-race party, including food and entertainment for the whole family. A special treat this year, the band Strictly Hip will play at the finish line, as will other bands along the route.

"Hospice has touched so many lives in so many different ways - that is why we love doing this every year," says Paul Beatty, race chairman. "We were excited to add the half marathon this year because of the beautiful views runners will see on the course, which is extremely different from other runs."

Race sponsors include Nike Factory Outlet, Niagara Falls Coach Lines, Modern Environmental and Heinrich Chevrolet. Runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to participate. The registration deadline is Aug. 25. Space is limited.
