Biodegradable/compostable materials included at breakfast
Niagara County's government will provide a demonstration of what new technologies mean for the environment - and for the bottom line - at Wednesday's Farm/City Breakfast at the Niagara County Fair, as part of the "Go Green/Wear Green" Day.
County Environmental Science Coordinator Dawn Timm will discuss how new strides in the manufacture of biodegradable plastics allow for more environmentally friendly - and more cost-effective - production of materials during the breakfast. The new synthetics, made from organic materials rather than petrochemicals, can often be purchased for costs below that of landfill-cluttering conventional plastics.
The catch? In a move reminiscent of the "Folgers switch," some diners at the breakfast will be eating with new, biodegradable utensils.
WHO: Environmental Science Coordinator Dawn Timm, on behalf of Niagara County Legislature Public Works Chairman Clyde L. Burmaster.
WHAT: Discussing and demonstrating biodegradable/compostable plastics, including providing some diners with utensils manufactured from the new environmentally benign materials.
WHEN: Wednesday, Aug. 3, 8 a.m
WHERE: Niagara County Fairgrounds, 4487 Lake Ave., Lockport.
