Bob Cliffe, Wheatfield supervisor, announced his candidacy for re-election this week.

"It has truly been an honor to serve as your supervisor this past year and a half. Today, I am asking for your support for another term.

"When elected, my challenge was to turn around the fiscal position of the town, a town which was bleeding money. Working together with the board, we were able to make some very difficult decisions and gain control of town finances. In our first year, we reduced our deficit from more than $663,000 to under $90,000; by the end of 2011 we will have a true fund balance. Long-term debt will be down from $15.6 million to under $12.6 million; still very high, but trending in the right direction. With next year's budget we will be reducing taxes without borrowing from our future.

"During this term we have made several improvements in services, upgrading dog control and animal control to professional services while reducing costs of both. We also began a relationship with the YMCA, allowing Wheatfield youngsters a terrific program at the Youth Center during the summer while reducing taxpayer expense. With the leadership of volunteers, we have brought back our traditional Wheatfield Family Picnic and added our farmers market. We now have a collection system for used electronics, with the town getting paid for recycling these products. I am proud to say that, with the support of our departments, we have maintained all critical services within a balanced budget.

"With truth comes trust. From me, you'll get straight talk and honest answers as I continue to work to earn your trust and support. I am the endorsed Republican, Independence and Conservative candidate for Wheatfield supervisor. I pledge that my campaign will be positive; I will not respond in kind to the negative comments by any opposition.

"If you appreciate the trend toward fiscal responsibility, please come and join me at a picnic on July 14, 5:30 p.m. at the Lions Club on Ward Road, (there is a charge to attend). Meet the endorsed Republican candidates and share your views as we plan for our future together."
