The Christian Heights Camp will be conducting its 64th annual camp program from July 10-23. Campers ages 8 through 16 are invited to join the fun for one of the two weeks the program is offered, or both.

"It is a great getaway for campers," said camp director George Brown.

"We try to promote Christian values and show children how to love each other," added camp president and caretaker, Lauretta Peters.

Brown has worked with Christian Heights since 1961. He retired as a counselor from Niagara-Wheatfield High School after teaching math and science at the school. He also served as minister of the Hickory College Church of Christ.

Peters has been a camper since she was 8 years old. Peters and her husband have been board members for years.

This year's theme is "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness."

Christian Heights Camp is a nondenominational, not-for-profit camp. It is located in Little Valley just outside Cattaraugus County. The camp operates on about 150 acres of woods, meadows and ponds.

A wide arrange of activities are offered. Rise and shine, campers will begin the day with a bugle. After eating breakfast initial cleanup, morning activities include chapel, Bible study and a large group sports activity, such as volleyball and baseball. Following lunch, campers will be invited to participate in swimming, arts and crafts and sports according to age groups. The all-day festivities conclude with campfire 'fun songs' and maybe even an overnight adventure in the woods, if the weather is permittable.

"We try to emphasize on the nature God has created," said Brown.

"It sends a good, Christian, wholesome message," said board member Gail Smith.

"The program is back to basics, back to nature and back to the Bible," added camp's lifeguard and board member, Penny Moher.

Moher was also a camper at just 8 years old. She sends her grandchildren to the program every summer.

"These are just the kinds of memories you cherish," she said.

Campers are asked not to bring any electronics with them, such as cell phones, computers, iPods, radios and CD players.

"Campers have said they enjoy having the opportunity to feel closer (to) God," said Brown. "Kids always have way too many distractions."

"Many children think they cannot live without their technology, but soon find it is easy to spend a weekend away from it," said Peters.

"It is a great way to keep the kids busy," said Smith. "They love have something to do all the time."

Session one begins July 10 and runs through July 16. Session two starts July 17 and runs through July 23. The fee to join the program is $165 per week.

Christian Heights is located at 9414 Dutch Hill Road in Little Valley. For more information, visit www.christianheightscamp.com or call Brown at 754-4751.
