Lewiston resident and 20-year Town of Lewiston highway department employee, David D'Avolio has announced his candidacy for Town of Lewiston highway superintendent.

A registered Democrat, D'Avolio offers the following statement. "Lewiston is not only a town to me but a family. I know that I possess the ability to keep our town the beautiful and safe town we all love so dear. I am announcing that I would like to earn your vote in the election for Town of Lewiston highway superintendent.

"Being a 20-year heavy machine equipment operator for the Town of Lewiston and veteran of Teamsters Local 264, I have the experience within the various departments. I understand and can provide what the town needs to operate 100 percent efficiently and effectively, without having to be trained to know what the jobs entail.

"I have the support of my fellow co-workers of the Town of Lewiston, and the support of many residents that have requested me to come into this election. They know the town will prosper from someone who knows the town in and out, and someone who can control spending within the department.

"As a taxpayer, I believe that we have to hold the line of what is important and how our money is spent. With confidence I will maintain the budget efficiently whether it be contractual, personnel, or equipment, making sure each budget line is spent properly and wisely. I am an advocate for shared services within the townships and villages in our area, which saves all of us on tax dollars.

"During the 20 years of working for our town, I have had the pleasure and privilege to meet most of our residences who are tax payers. I have listened to the problems throughout the town and know the steps we need to take to correct them. Problem solving is a strong talent I possess, along with fair leadership and strong belief in teamwork. I am trained and certified with OSHA. I have trained many with my knowledge of operating heavy machinery through vast techniques; focusing on skill building and confidence with the equipment, while maintaining employee health and safety consistently.

"The hands-on experience within the town highway department has taught me how to be prepared and handle many different jobs and some difficult situations. I have experience in repairing our infrastructure throughout Lewiston, installing water lines, or sewer lines. I have been there, 7 to 8 feet in the ground trying to better the community. I know drainage is a very serious issue in the Town of Lewiston. Be it from the residents to the farmers, I will solve our drainage situations with the drainage department being put on a full rotating schedule.

"Over the 20 years with the town I ran the chipper, brush and leaf pickup on a regular basis, rain or shine. During the winter months, I've been out there at 3 a.m., making sure the roadways were salted and clear of snow for the safe morning commute of our residents and children. I have plowed every road on every beat of Lewiston one time or another. I have not done this all on my own, I am very proud and happy with the great team of employees I work with at the Town of Lewiston.

"I reside in Lewiston with my wife, Michele (Jordan), my two daughters Ashley, 24, Lindsey, 22, and grandson Max, 2. I am a member of the Moose Lodge, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Our family attends St. Peter's R.C. Church, and are consistent supporters of Lewiston's restaurants and small businesses.

"I have had the privilege of making Lewiston the special place it is and will continue to do so with your support this fall. I hope to earn your votes and confidence to elect me as your next highway superintendent."
