The Youngstown Garden Club announced the completion of a newly funded garden project. The artfully designed landscaping at the gazebo on Main Street recently received an extreme makeover consisting of new plants, perennials and flowers. The project was funded by the Village of Youngstown and the Youngstown Garden Club, and implemented by Faery's Nursery. The village board approved the landscaping plan in 2010 for the gazebo, which was originally built and landscaped in 1987.

"It's a gift we presented the community with," said the Garden Club's second vice president, Janis Dutko. "It is a way to enhance mother nature."

The landscaping efforts were important since the original plants had become overgrown and outdated.  Members of the garden club, community and volunteers plant and maintain the grounds of the gazebo, Red Brick School and Faulkner Park. The club had watering systems installed several years ago to keep the beds looking magnificent.  The gazebo and the park serve as the focal point of the business district on Main Street.

The public is encouraged to visit the park and take in the serenity and vantage point of the river that the park overlooks.

"The park is such a beautiful vista," said Dutko. "The area is such a quiet, enjoyable spot."

The Garden Club would like to thank the public for its support at the annual perennial sale that is held every year at the gazebo.  It recently celebrated its 54th anniversary. The beautification of the Village of Youngstown will be continued because of the club's support, members of a civic-minded group.
