ABC challenges Times Square Military Island

ABC's exciting new summer adventure series, "Expedition Impossible", will be introduced to the public in style.  To kick off the premiere of the reality show, ABC will place a sand dune in the iconic New York location of Times Square Military Island and organize several physical challenges on Thursday, June 23, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., ET. "Expedition Impossible" premieres Thursday, June 23, 2011 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET).

Just as teams of ordinary people on "Expedition Impossible" will be doing the extraordinary during one of the greatest adventures of their lives, those passing by Times Square will similarily be able to take part in fun and games through a several courses promoting team competition. The Times Square event will reflect the same mental and physical nature of "Expedition Impossible", through interactive activities and visual displays. Upon entering the event area, spectators will be given a "passport", which, after completing the course, can be redeemed at the Expedition Rewards tent for their very own "Expedition Impossible" water bottle (while supplies last).

The challenge, known as Excavation Impossible, is made possible by the new Ford Explorer, and will allow participants to engage in a fun and entertaining opportunity to dig in the sand, compete as a team, and be introduced to the new 2011 Ford Explorer.

Participants can also choose to take part in a personal challenge by engaging in an expedition up one of the three 30-ft palm trees at the Coconut Tree Climb. The Moroccan Mind Challenge will demand that teams to think on the spot and be thef fastest team to construct a "Expedition Impossible" puzzle. Those who dream of exploring the desert or travelling to a Moroccan city can visit the Expedition Images photo tent take pictures in front of a green screen displaying a plethora of sceneries. Participants will be givem a branded photo telling them to visit www.expeditionimpossibleonabc.com, where their photos can be downloaded and shared with friends and family.

From executive producer and creator Mark Burnett, the show "Expedition Impossible" documents the struggles of 13 teams of 3 who take part in the ultimate adventure of racing across wide deserts, climbing snow-capped mountains and crossing raging rivers in the exotic country of Morocco. A new challenege will be presented to the competitors each week. Will they succumb to the pressure of thinking on their feet in the great outdoors, or can they overcome their many hinderances facing them to complete their expeditions? Only one team will cross the finish line first to claim victory, and win $150,000 to be split among members, as well as a new Ford Explorers. "Expedition Impossible" is hosted by Dave Salmoni.
