The Niagara Wheatfield Kiwanis donated $1,200 to West Street Elementary School to support the schools implementation of Steven Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People curriculum.

The program will kick off on June 23 with a school vision day that will help set the course for West Street as they embark on a journey as a school community to create student leaders. The N-W Kiwanis Club has been with West Street for more than a year, participating in a school book talk around the Seven Habits book.

"The support the Kiwanis have given us will be put to good use helping our students become leaders and contributing members of their community," Principal Theron Mong said.

After the school sets their vision, the Seven Habits will be implemented with staff, students and parents. Workshops will teach staff how they can "Be Proactive, Put First Things First and Think Win, Win." This program will move students beyond typical character education programs that focus solely on a character trait a month. The Leader in Me will create a new mind set for all members of the school community.
