Lewiston Library June events, activities

The Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the Village of Lewiston, announces the following programs, events and activities for the month of June:

•Computer classes this month include: file management, Thursday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Internet basic, Thursday, June 30, also from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sign up at the front desk or call the library at 754-4720.

•The Niagara County SPCA will present a program, "How to Take Care of Dogs," on Tuesday, June 28, at 1 p.m. featuring Officer Bob from the SPCA. A donation box to aid the dog and cats of the Niagara County SPCA will be located in the children's room.

Clubs and More

•The Dead Beats Society will meet on Monday, June 6, at 6 p.m. in the library's local history room. Call Michelle at the library for details, or email her at [email protected].

She informs The Coffin Club continues its search for photographers. Those in high school or college with a camera, access to a computer and some time to spend photographing Niagara area cemeteries, should call Michelle at the library for details, or email [email protected].

•The Lewiston Book Club will meet on Tuesday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m. For further information, contact Anita Mallimo at 754-7714.

•Mom's Book Chat will meet Thursday, June 9, at 7 p.m. Discussed will be "Her Fearful Symmetry," by Audrey Niffenegger. Child care is provided for registered participants. The library will be closed to the public during this event.

•The Lewiston Writers' Group meets on Monday, June 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library. The group will also meet on Monday, June 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Asker's Café, 400 Main St., in Youngstown.

The group consists of area residents who meet regularly to discuss and critique their writing efforts, and exchange ideas and information about the craft. Guest speakers are scheduled as available. For more information, visit www.lewistonwritersgroup.com.

•The Knitting Club meets every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. Open to all ages, no registration is required, and knitters of all skill levels are welcome. For more information, contact Ellen Comerford at 754-4144.

•Meetings for the month include the library board of trustees, Monday, June 6, at 5 p.m.; the Lewiston Garden Club, Tuesday, June 7, at 10 a.m.; Friends of the Library, Tuesday, June 14, at 6 p.m.; and the Lake Ontario Ordnance Works Restoration Advisory Board, Tuesday, June 28, at 5 p.m.

•The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library maintain a used book room, open all year long during library hours. Items for sale include fiction, non-fiction, and children's materials.

Weekly Story Time

•Alphabet Soup with Miss Ann, for children ages 3 to 5 years old, will be held Mondays, June 6 and 13, at 10:30 a.m.

•Lap sit story time with Miss Ann, for children age birth to 23 months, will be held on Wednesdays, June 8 and 15, at 9:30 a.m.

•Toddler hour with Miss Ann, for children ages 24 months to 3 years, will be held on Wednesdays, June 8 and 15, at 10:30 a.m.

•Story time with Mrs. Leardini, for children of all ages will take place on Thursdays, June 9 and 16, at 10:30 a.m.

•The Lewiston Bridge Builders Story Hour with Annette Wall will be held Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m. Program topic: "We Love You Daddy!"

No story hours will be scheduled during the first and fourth weeks of June.

Library hours: Monday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
