Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today released the following statement regarding Gov. Andrew Cuomo's "People First" tour being held at the Conference Center in Niagara Falls:

"While I applaud Governor Cuomo for conducting his 'People First' event to highlight his legislative priorities, I believe he should focus more of his energy in convincing the New York City-dominated Assembly Majority to pass his property-tax cap bill in order to provide meaningful tax relief to Western New York families and businesses.

"Lower taxes will help spur economic growth by making New York a more competitive state in which to do business and it will also provide needed relief to Western New York homeowners who pay some of the highest property taxes in the nation as a percentage of their home value.

"The governor should be cognizant of who supports his tax-cap bill and who is trying to block it. I implore him to use the bully pulpit to put pressure on Assembly Democrats in order to bring his bill to the floor for a vote. His leadership is needed to ensure that the Legislature delivers something which New Yorkers have long sought: meaningful and lasting tax relief."
