Park celebrates kids and students with giveaways and special days

Darien Lake Theme Park Resort opens a new season of family fun, thrills and entertainment Saturday, May 14. To celebrate, New York's largest theme park and water park vacation destination is giving away a free "Thomas & Friends" train whistle to the first 1,000 children 12 and under in anticipation for the new show "Thomas & Friends Full Steam Ahead Live!" premiering May 28. The interactive show takes kids on an adventure with Thomas as he experiences timeless life lessons, including discovery, friendship and cooperation.

"Darien Lake has been providing families with affordable fun for nearly 50 years. We offer something for every member of the family - theme park, water park, live entertainment and four accommodations options," said Christopher Thorpe, Darien Lake's general manager. "In addition to 'Thomas & Friends' fun on opening day, we welcome students all month long with specially themed celebrations created exclusively for them."

Theme Park Quests For Students

Darien Lake's theme park offers more than 40 rides for thrill seekers, families and kid-sized fun. The month of May is dedicated to students with a variety of customized programs:

  • Music Fest: Marching bands, choirs, orchestras and many other talented student musicians from all over Western New York compete for the grand champion award. The competition begins on opening day, May 14, and continues every Friday and Saturday until June 4.
  • Math and Science Days: Students have the opportunity to experience math and science lessons in real life as they learn about these concepts while riding roller coasters and conducting experiments on May 23 and June 9.
  • Theater Day: New this spring, students interested in theater arts get a chance to further their talents beyond the stage on May 20.  Genesee Community College's Fine and Performing Arts Department leads theatre workshops to improve students' self-confidence, creativity and communication skills.

To receive the best value and perks, season passes are on-sale now at GoDarienLake.com, Wegmans or by calling 585-599-4641. Family Four Packs bought and activated before May 30 include free parking and bring-a-friend-free coupons.
