'The Talk' celebrates Mother's Day with 'Moms Who Move Us' series

In honor of Mother's Day, "The Talk" will dedicate a week to mothers of all circumstances as part of the "Moms Who Move Us" series. Throughout the week, the hosts of "The Talk" will feature compelling and motivational stories each day of five special people.

In addition, the hosts of "The Talk" will pay tribute to their own mothers by expressing their love and appreciation for the women who raised them and shaped who they are today.

Monday, May 2:

Carolyn Glaspy of Cincinnati

In December 2009, Carolyn Glaspy received the dreaded call that she had to go to Charlotte, N.C., where her son, NFL player Chris Henry, was at the time. Once she arrived, she learned that her son had been in an accident, was brain dead and on life support.

Following Chris' death, Carolyn made the decision to help save others' lives by donating Chris' organs to five recipients (one of the five organ recipients died of unrelated causes since the transplant). To this day, the four recipients are forever grateful to Carolyn for making the decision that no mother should ever have to face.

Holly Robinson Peete traveled to Cincinnati to meet Carolyn and hear her story while visiting Paul Brown Stadium, the home of her son's former team. Donna Arnold, an organ recipient, and her family will join Carolyn in-studio to express how her amazing decision allowed Donna to see another Mother's Day.

Tuesday, May 3:

Cheryl Jackson, Plano, Texas

For years, Cheryl Jackson's parents served the hungry and their example rubbed off on their daughter. Cheryl is an inspiration to everyone in her community, having started Minnie's Food Pantry, which she named after her mother.

Cheryl wants to ensure the people of Plano, Texas, never go hungry so she continues to provide them with groceries. In her pantry, she rolls out a red carpet, lights candles and plays music so it has a welcoming feel. The local post office officially designated May 14 "Stamp Out Hunger Day" in honor of the Pantry.

Cheryl is in talks with a chef to prepare meals at the pantry so she can teach parents how to cook healthy food for their children.

"The Talk" host Sara Gilbert paid a visit to Plano to see Cheryl's work first-hand. Cheryl, her mother, Minnie, and a Plano family will be in-studio to share their story about how Cheryl saved them by putting food on their table.

Wednesday, May 4:

Susan Burton, Los Angeles

Susan Burton has helped more than 600 women get back on their feet after they were released from prison. Many of these women end up on "Skid Row" with nowhere to turn and no real options.

Susan, a former drug user who was in and out of jail after the death of her son, completely changed her life and dedicated it to helping other women. She has become a mother figure to these women and prevented many of them from becoming homeless or back in jail by opening the doors to her own home.

Kassandra, a 26-year-old mother who lives in Susan's home, will be in studio to thank Susan for keeping her and her daughter off the streets.

Thursday, May 5:

Dave Pontell, Rhinelander, Wis.

Last summer, Dave Pontell was out on the lake with his family when his daughter fell overboard. Jaime, his wife, immediately jumped in and handed their daughter to Dave but when he turned back to get Jaime, she was gone. Sadly, Jaime drowned and Dave was left a widower with three young children. She was posthumously honored with a Good Samaritan's Award from the Red Cross.

As the Pontell family faces their first Mother's Day without Jaime, "The Talk" will honor her memory and recognize Dave for taking on the role of both mother and father. He will appear on the show with Jamie's mother and sisters.  

Friday, May 6:

Crystal Darak, Wilson, N.C.

Crystal Darak is a 24-year-old mother who has shown tremendous strength and courage while raising her 1-year-old daughter, Korah, who is in desperate need of a heart transplant. 

Korah was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a heart defect in which the left side of the organ failed to grow properly, leaving her with only one pumping chamber. Due to her condition, Korah has undergone several surgeries. The little girl's father, Jayson, a government contractor, would love to remain home to be with his wife and daughter but their financial situation has taken a turn for a worse due to the challenges they face. As a result, Crystal drives an hour and a half to visit Korah at the hospital six days a week and does everything in her power to make Korah's life as comfortable as possible.
