Spring has sprung and activities are in planning for the new Town of Lewiston Dog Park on the Artpark Plateau.

Molly Chamberlain of the Lewiston Dog Owners Group informs that LDOG will be holding two events of note in coming days and weeks. Leading off is a spring cleanup taking place the weekends of April 16-17 and April 23-24 at the dog park. "No set time - just whenever you can make it, rake up, pick up (you know what), whatever is needed," says Chamberlain. She reports that LDOG members and others are welcome to stop by and join in. Dispenser bags for the park<0x2019>s P-Bins and mitts may be picked up at Grandpaws Pet Emporium, 245 Portage Road, Lewiston, right before the dog park.

In other news of note, Chamberlain reports LDOG is sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit dog park users. To be held the weekend of April 29-May 1, the fundraiser includes an informal Friday evening meet-and-greet dinner at the Lewiston Village Pub with "Dog Whisperers"

Mark German and Janice Wolfe, and Saturday and Sunday day-long dog-training workshops presented by the two, which will be held at the Lewiston Senior Center, 4361 Lower River Road, and are open to dog owners and their pets.

"The fundraiser is a give something - get something - possibly more than you could imagine," says Chamberlain. She reports that proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards construction of two shade shelters planned for the dog park

According to LDOG, the workshops, titled, "The Four Essentials to a Stable Dog," will provide participants insight on dealing with such problems as jumping, barking, digging, growling, and getting along with others. "This event is all day so that these 'Dog Whisperers' will have time to work with each of you and your dog and hopefully correct any bad behaviors, etc.," says Chamberlain.

She notes the Saturday and Sunday sessions run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Included will be the morning and afternoon workshops plus morning coffee, a snack, lunch, and a copy of the trainers' book "There's Hope." Price for the workshops is $50 per person.

Also available, says Chamberlain is an all-inclusive package, featuring the informal meet and dine affair with the trainers at the Village Pub, plus the workshops. Cost is $100 person or $125 per couple. "Your support will ensure our dogs have shade at the park this summer," says Chamberlain.
