Today, millions of older adults suffer from chronic conditions such as arthritis, cancer, chronic pain, diabetes, or heart disease. The Health Association of Niagara County Inc. will offer free workshops to help manage these health conditions so older adults can take control and live better.

"Living Healthy" is a free, six-week course based on a national model from Stanford University. Participants are taught how to live happily with a chronic condition through managing pain, reducing emotional stress, and improving physical fitness.

"We have seen 'Living Healthy' truly make a difference in the lives of older adults," says Project Director Jimmy Rowe, a nationally certified master trainer for "Living Healthy." "Their quality of life certainly improves after only six weeks."

Participants create a personal action plan, which allows them to take charge of their lives and conditions. This acts as a guide to aid in decisions after the course has concluded to continue healthful living.

"Living Healthy" classes begin April 12 and run every Tuesday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the HANCI offices, located at 1302 Main St., Niagara Falls. Healthy refreshments will be provided. To enroll, call 285-8224, ext. 131, or visit www.hanci.com.
