The community is invited to a grand opening of the Niagara Hospice Resource Center in Lockport at noon Friday, Feb. 11.

The opening ceremony will be followed by an open house until 6 p.m.

"The Niagara Hospice Resource Center will be a community-based center that provides information in a friendly and home-like atmosphere to people interested in learning about hospice related services," said Hospice Marketing and Public Relations Director Tricia Degan.

Resources will include education materials that cover hospice services and trained staff and volunteers to answer questions.

"Our goal is to educate more Niagara County residents about the total hospice experience and all that Niagara Hospice has to offer," said Degan.

The Niagara Hospice Circle of Hope program is also stationed at the Resource Center, relocating from its former site on Sunset Drive in Lockport. Circle of Hope provides grief counseling outreach to the community.

Niagara Hospice Director of Outreach Services, Chris Gress, Ph.D., said that the ease of access to the Resource Center will hopefully encourage people to learn more about hospice, even before they may need hospice care.

Centrally located at the Ulrich City Centre on Walnut Street in Lockport, the Resource Center is in a highly visible location and on a bus route. The center holds a staffed reception area where education materials are available to the community, two private counseling rooms that are designed to be comfortable and home-like, a conference area for group gatherings, a small kitchen and an office area for outreach staff.
