Housing Opportunities Made Equal is accepting applications for the Joanne Champion Granger Scholarship. It will be given to a high school senior in Erie or Niagara County who, in addition to academic achievement, has demonstrated a commitment to human rights and equal opportunity in housing.

Granger was a high school science teacher and community activist whose personal experience with housing discrimination when she first moved to Buffalo gave her the determination to work for fair housing. Even after her retirement from Mount St. Mary Academy, Granger was an active member of HOME and other service and civil rights organizations. Her husband, Dr. Carl Granger, created the scholarship in 1995 to honor her courage, commitment, and inspiration to others.

Scholarship applications are due by Friday, Feb. 18. The winner will be recognized at HOME's 48th annual meeting and dinner to be held on Thursday, April 28, at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.

For further information and application forms, contact Grace McKenzie at 854-1400, ext. 22. Application forms can also be downloaded at www.homeny.org.
