"I like and enjoy people," Susan Sullivan says.

Well, that's an understatement.

The president of Sue's Frame of Mind is definitely a Chatty Cathy. When Left of Center visited recently for a quick chat, just about an hour ticked off the clock as the conversation turned from framing to life (family, hobbies, and, of course, Lewiston).

If you're looking for an in-and-out, superstore-type experience with Sue's Frame of Mind, you won't find it.

But that's what's so great about this retail shop. Sue takes an interest in her clients, and their items for framing, and pairs them up as if she were a master matchmaker.

"Each piece is different and each person I chat with. ... People are interesting, and it's nice to take a few minutes and chat with them," Sue says.

Her decision to begin a business in Lewiston stemmed from her days working at Eddie's Art Shoppe. While there, she discovered "this village has its own character and its own personality."

When her employer decided to exit the village in early 2009, Sue had thoughts of opening a framing store in another location. Lewiston's community spirit, however, kept her in town.

"I love the people," Sue says. "That's really what I like about coming back here."

"I'm actually very much enjoying this," she notes.

Sue's Frame of Mind flawlessly enshrines bowls, jerseys, photos, heirlooms and special souvenirs. Sue recently put a Purple Heart, dog tags and Iwo Jima sand together for a veteran.

"It was just inspiring; awesome," Sue says. "It was wonderful to frame such a unique piece."

Sue's Frame of Mind is located at 748 Center St. Store hours are 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, call 754-7074 or e-mail.
