Cuomo, Maziarz, Ceretto win

Voting was steady in Niagara County on a sunny Tuesday morning as area residents cast their ballots on a day that saw voters learning the ropes on new machines and state races being the newsmakers. A few delays were reported at some polling places due to voter unfamiliarity with the machines.

In the end, Andrew Cuomo took the governor's race statewide by a wide margin, while in Niagara County it was Carl Palladino who won the hearts of local residents. According to unofficial results from the Niagara County Board of Elections, Palladino had 40,116 votes (64.75 percent) compared to Cuomo's 19,976 votes.

In other races of note, voters sent Republican George Maziarz of Newfane back to represent the 62nd District in the State Senate with 33,421 votes (68.45 percent) over Amy Hope Witryol (15,406 votes). In the 138th District of the State Assembly, Republican John Ceretto of Lewiston won the seat with 15,164 votes (45.44 percent) over Democrat John Accardo (11,677 votes) and incumbent Francine DelMonte (6,530 votes).

And in Lewiston, voters elected Town Councilman Ron Winkley and Town Highway Superintendent Doug Janese in uncontested races.
