The Historic Riviera Theatre presents "Opera On Broadway" for one performance only on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m., at 67 Webster St., North Tonawanda.

"Opera On Broadway" is a semi-staged concert featuring music that has been performed on the operatic and Broadway stages. The premise is to highlight shows and music that has crossed over from Broadway into the opera house (and vice versa), Broadway shows with operatic traits, and operas that have been re-written and performed as Broadway musicals. A chorus of 40 voices, along with featured soloists, will perform songs from timeless classics such as "Showboat," "Kismet," "South Pacific," "Porgy and Bess" and "Carousel." Featured contemporary works include "A Little Night Music," "The Phantom of the Opera," "Miss Saigon" and "Rent." Narration will be interwoven in between pieces, providing interesting facts about the musicals and operas that are featured.

Producer Opera-Lytes has been in existence for 16 years, and specializes in performing Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and "classic" Broadway musicals. In addition to this, the group also performs two to three choral concerts each season. Opera-Lytes is the only theatre company in the area that performs Gilbert and Sullivan on an annual basis, presenting fully staged productions with orchestral accompaniment. The group has performed in such venues as the Lancaster Opera House, Ujima TheatreLoft, Alleyway Theatre and, most recently, the Riviera Theatre.

"Opera On Broadway" features staging by Gayle Nason-Churchill, direction by Paul Waara, accompaniment by Jonathan Mann, and concert narration written by Lisa Berglund.

Ticket prices are  $20. For more information, call the Riviera Theatre Box Office at 692-2413, or order online at www.rivieratheatre.org.
