From Oct. 28 through Nov. 7, Niagara University Theatre will present "The Real Thing" by acclaimed British playwright Tom Stoppard. Directed by Doug Zschiegner, associate director of Niagara University Theatre, this witty story introduces Henry, a celebrated writer, who experiences love like never before. But, in order to continue, he must first experience infidelity.  Being a writer, he tries to find the perfect order of words to describe the "it" of love, art, and politics. As this intellectual discovers his heart, he struggles as his art imitates life and his life imitates art.

Stoppard has been challenging audiences' perception of things ever since his early play "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead." His recent Broadway hits include "Coast of Utopia," "Rock ‘n' Roll" and "Arcadia," plus his stirring screenplays include "Brazil" and "Shakespeare In Love."

"The Real Thing" is on stage at the William P. and Marie Leary Theatre within the Elizabeth Ann Clune Center for Theatre, Clet Hall, at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, and at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 30, and Nov. 5 and 6. A 2 p.m. matinee will be held on Oct. 31 (with post-show discussion) and Nov. 7.

Set and sound design is by Zschiegner, associate director of Niagara University Theatre. Costume design is by Maureen Stevens, associate professor of design/technology. Lighting design is by Jon Harper.

Cast members include the following Niagara University theater studies students: Ross Donatelli of Farmington (Max); Megan Kemple of Fort Drum (Charlotte); Will Hicks of Ithaca (Henry); Elexa Kopty (Annie) and Alan Trinca (Billy) of Buffalo; Renee Landrigan of Lockport (Debbie); and Fabio Del Carlo of Harrison, N.J. (Brodie).
