Join Police Academy

Sheriff James R. Voutour announces the Sheriff's Community Police Academy will be held on Thursdays at the Niagara County Public Safety Building, 5574 Niagara St. Ext., Lockport, Jan. 6 to April 7, 2011.

There is no cost for the 6 p.m. class that generally runs 3 to 4 hours.

Applications can be obtained at www.niagarasheriff.com. Contact Sgt. Smith at the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy at 614-6496 or Deputy Pat Williams at 523-0098 for more information.

Applicants must be at least 20 years of age, reside or work within Niagara County and have no prior felony convictions or outstanding warrants.

The goal of the Sheriff's Community Police Academy is to provide county residents with a working knowledge and background of the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. Topics such as firearms training simulator, reality based training and emergency vehicle operator course are among those covered.
