Grand Island's Marc Scibilia in town for rare Buffalo show

A brand new Marc Scibilia returns to Western New York this weekend for a concert benefiting Let Them LOL (laugh out loud), an organization that provides clean water wells in Sierra Leone, Africa.

The concert begins at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, as part of Bella Misi Café at Club Infinity in Clarence. Tickets are $10 presale and $15 at the door.

Fans of Scibilia will notice his massive mane of hair is somewhat more tamed, his piano is nowhere in sight, and he has a newfound artistic confidence.

In recording his current EP, "From Brooklyn to Maine," Scibilia said he learned a lot about what makes him tick as a musician. Working with different producers, and writing and creating music that is different from his spiritually themed disc "Fixity," and the piano pop that was prevalent in his earlier work, "was part of discovering who I am as an artist," Scibilia said. "It's just all part of the progression for me."

"I'm learning how to find the songs that are true to me," he said, adding, "I'm a lot more comfortable in my skin, with what I'm doing artistically. ... I feel like I'm creating, right now, and making stuff that I believe in. And it's so exciting. People are resonating with it."

Scibilia also decided to redirect the look and feel of his live show.

"I used to feel like I'd have to go on stage and be a comedian, or just say the right things, or be an entertainer," he said. "Now I feel like I very much lean upon the song to do the heavy lifting."

Having recently signed a record contract with Sony Nashville, Scibilia is working on a guitar-driven follow-up album, and busy at work in Nashville, Tenn., and Texas. Despite his hectic schedule, Scibilia decided to fly back to Buffalo to headline the charity concert because he said it's a worthwhile cause.

"I don't get to be a part of enough things that I really believe in," he said. "So, it was nice to be able to do that.

"And, I haven't been home in a while. We're hoping to have a lot of support for them, and raise a lot of money."
