*What you are about to read is a cinematic review. Each movie is critiqued based on its rating-pending (PG or R), Genre (Comedy or Thriller), the acting, the score, the plot, and the overall quality of the movie. Hence, just because there are explosions, blood, or you think George Clooney/Megan Fox is "hot" does not mean it's a good film. Or does it. ... You be the judge.*

STORYBOARD

Scott Pilgrim (Cera) lives in a distant, far away land where weird and unexplainable digitalized things occur: Toronto, Canada. He's 23 years old, in a rock band, "between jobs," and dating a private high school girl. Everything finally seems to go right for him until a seriously mind-blowing rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers (Winstead) starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. But the path to Ms. Flowers isn't covered in rose petals. Ramona's seven evil exes stand between Scott and this newfound love. If he really wants her, he must fight for her life -- and even his own.

THE DISPOSITION

This is a Get-the-Girl-of-My-Dreams love story, and a new and fresh one at that. The film right off the bat starts with the slow/boring life of Pilgrim, which Cera is so perfectly cast to play. And it quickly shuffles through all the information you need from the written comic-novel. I'll admit I didn't know what the heck I was looking at for the first 15 minutes, but that's what put me in the mood for the rest of this great story.

Have you ever read a comic book or played a video game that you not only spent 10,000 hours playing, but the story line was so good that you told all your friends it should become a movie? All of you "gamers" have been there. But Hollywood ruins it with "Doom," "Max Payne," "Mortal Kombat," "Fantastic 4" and "Spiderman 3" (I still can't get over how they ruined Venom). But this visually beautiful achievement shows hope that the gaming world and Hollywood may still coexist together.

The plot is so light and simple that it's easy to follow, but so original that it's easy to enjoy. It's honestly a typical guy-meets-girl, girl-plays-hard-to-get, guy-and-girl-start-to-fall-in-love, girl-brings-baggage, guy-brings-baggage, and they all fight. But what is neat and fresh about the film is that it shows us the outward struggles of every relationship along with the internal struggles. It plays really well in the fact that, when Pilgrim starts to go down the line of the seven evil exes, it gets more and more exciting and entertaining.

This ends up being the perfect movie for all you guys looking to please your woman without watching "The Notebook" umpteen times.

"I LOVED IT!!"

If you still haven't taken your special lady to a date this summer. You'll both love it, and it's an easy way out of the doghouse.

4 out of 5 stars
