Emergency vehicles will be converging on the Inducon business area Friday afternoon (July 9) for a Mass Casualty/HAZMAT Exercise conducted by the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.

The NFARS is required to conduct joint exercises to ensure the readiness of both the installation and the community in the event of a major accident or disaster. This non-emergency, joint exercise between civilian and military agencies is designed to highlight and test mutual aid between the two and evaluate emergency response capabilities.

The exercise will be a simulation of a commercial tanker truck that has crashed into a ditch resulting in a hazardous material spill. Approximately 30 "victims/patients" will be pretending to be exposed to the simulated hazardous material.

Ambulances from neighboring emergency medical services (Tri-Community, Rural Metro, and Twin City), several fire trucks and HAZMAT teams (Bergholz Volunteer Fire Co., Niagara County and the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station), personnel from the Niagara County Department of Health, the Niagara County coroner and various other emergency personnel and equipment will be on the scene.
