On June 20, 1953, Edward Rayhill and Joanne Decot were married at St. Benedict's R.C. Church in Eggertsville. In 1959, the couple moved to Grand Island, where they raised their four children while Dr. Rayhill built a medical practice with doctors Miller and Sheehan.

Air quality on June 7 and 8 was so unhealthy, as a result of the winds that brought in smoke from wildfires in Canada, that Grand Island NY Baseball & Softball (little league) canceled all games.

On June 12, a tour boat in the privately run commercial Lockport Caves capsized, killing one passenger and injuring several others. Following this tragic boating accident, Gov. Kathy Hochul will propose legislation granting the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation regulatory authority over commercial tourism boats operating in caves to prevent future tragedies.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced progress in New York state's multipronged effort to protect children in the workforce. She announced that, as part of its ongoing work with the child labor task force announced earlier this year, the New York State Department of Labor recently conducted inspections into child labor practices at 145 New York businesses.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Chevelle Sherrill, age 44, of Niagara Falls, plead guilty this morning to manslaughter in the first degree in the killing of Calvin Wroten, age 48, also of Niagara Falls, on Jan. 5, 2022. Sherrill admitted to shooting Wroten, who was her boyfriend, with a shotgun inside the apartment they shared.

To ensure continuity of emergency care for the local community, Catholic Health will open a temporary emergency department at 5875 S. Transit Road, Lockport, on June 18 at 12:01 a.m., following the closure of Eastern Niagara Hospital on June 17. Mount St. Mary's Hospital will operate the 24/7 emergency department until the new Lockport Memorial Hospital opens in September.
