Becker Farms, a 340-acre working fruit and vegetable farm, invites families to its "Trunk or Treat" event to be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in the parking lot at 3724 Quaker Road, Gasport. A donation of $5 per person grants admission to the grounds; access to all kids' activities, including the playground, mega-slide, corn maze, petting zoo and "trunk or treating"; plus, live music at the farm. All proceeds go back to the participating local companies.

Niagara University's Holzschuh College of Business Administration has been awarded a $500,000 Higher Education Capital Matching Grant for the construction of a facility to house the Centers for Food Industry Innovation and Supply Chain Excellence. The facility, which will be located in Bisgrove Hall, will include an innovation hub, a classroom of the future, and a business technology lab.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. Monday, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Pine Avenue to check the welfare of a man sitting in a pickup truck. Upon arrival, officers located a 47-year-old male, sitting in the driver seat, unresponsive. Niagara Falls Fire Department and AMR responded to render aid, at which time it was determined that the victim had been shot.

Flynn announced 47-year-old Felix Ramos of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Betty Calvo-Torres to one count of burglary in the third degree (class "D" felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the only count in the indictment against him as his non-jury trial was scheduled to begin.

The Westminster Economic Development Initiative (WEDI) received a $250,000 grant from Bank of America to advance its $11.5 million capital campaign to build a new West Side Bazaar at 1432 Niagara St., Buffalo. Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed "Move Over" legislation into law, thereby expanding New York's "Slow Down/Move Over" requirement. The expansion includes disabled vehicles that are parked on the shoulder of a controlled access highway or parkway, requiring drivers to exercise caution when approaching a disabled vehicle.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski and Orleans County Clerk Nadine P. Hanlon announced the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has begun sending out driver's license suspension notices to the 95,000 motorists who renewed their license between March 1, 2020, and Aug. 31, 2021, by self-certifying their vision, but have failed to submit the results.
