Gunman pleads guilty for killing victim outside eastside corner store in 2020

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 30-year-old Mahzhee X. Young of Buffalo pleaded guilty this morning before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class “B” violent felony).

On June 9, 2020, at approximately 11:18 p.m., the defendant shot the victim multiple times with an illegal gun outside of a corner store on East Ferry Street and Grider Street in the City of Buffalo during a verbal altercation. The victim, 27-year-old David D. Moore, was taken to ECMC in a private vehicle where he died from his injuries a short time later.

Young faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on Wednesday, Nov. 15. He continues to be held without bail.

DA Flynn commends detectives Joseph Christopher, Ray Krug and Mark White of the Buffalo Police Department homicide squad for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Eugene T. Partridge III of the homicide bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the narcotics/intelligence bureau.
