"The Lions of Cantigny" is a colorful, prominent mural at the west end of the Fort Niagara Officers' Club main hall in Fort Niagara State Park. It depicts hand-to-hand combat between the U.S. Army's 28th Infantry Regiment and the German 18th Army on May 28 and 29, 1918.

On Tuesday evening at the Town of Niagara Town Hall, the Town Planning Board held its monthly meeting. Discussion on the revised Bri Estates site plan was expected, but the board had to table all discussion after developers from Double C Realty felt the need to make changes to their plan and submit an updated proposal. Planning Board members agreed they didn't know what changes would be made to the proposal.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz has proposed an additional $3 million in funding for 2018 county road and infrastructure work. The additional funding, added as an amendment to the 2018 capital budget bond resolution that is now before the Erie County Legislature, would be used for road reconstruction and rehabilitation work including pavement and shoulder widening, drainage improvements, sight distance and safety improvements.

"Dancing with the Stars" champion Rashad Jennings returns to the ballroom as a guest judge, alongside Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons softball team has had a knack for producing a quality team out of the Niagara Frontier League. With five Section VI titles and eight Niagara Frontier League crowns under their belt dating back to 1976 and 1982, respectively, the 2018 Falcons could use their experienced roster to ring in No. 6 and No. 9.

The Health Association of Niagara County Inc. recently hosted a book launch celebration at the Wheatfield Community Center, honoring almost 70 Niagara County residents aged 90 and older who took part in the "Faces of Niagara" portrait book. Almost 150 people gathered last Saturday to celebrate the lives of these remarkable individuals.

The Nancy Price Memorial 5K Run will be held Saturday, May 12, starting at the Youngstown Firehall, 625 Third St. The race route will take runners through the village and along the river walking path at Fort Niagara State Park, ultimately ending back at the Youngstown Fire Department. There, there will be a post-race party.

The Erie County Department of Social Services is currently recruiting employers throughout Erie County to participate in the 2018 summer youth employment program, an eight-week program operating from July 9 through Aug. 31. The program serves youth between the ages of 14 and 20. Mackenzie Quider has a huge role for the Niagara-Wheatfield softball team. Not only does she pitch in the circle for the Falcons, she hits fourth in a strong lineup. On Tuesday evening, she showed exactly what she's capable of.
The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons defeated the Grand Island Vikings in Niagara Frontier League play, 3-2. The game was the first home game of the year for the Falcons due to dreary April weather.
