DEC: $300,000 for municipalities for zero-emission vehicles purchase or lease

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced $300,000 is available from the state's Environmental Protection Fund in the form of rebates to municipalities for the purchase or lease of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).

EPA school bus rebate program set to reduce diesel emissions

Earlier this month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced more than $9 million available nationwide in rebates to replace older diesel school buses through EPA's Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) funding. In March, recipients in New York and New Jersey received rebates totaling $759,000 to replace or retrofit 39 buses. The new and retrofitted buses will reduce pollutants that are linked to health problems such as asthma and lung damage.

Pegula Sports & Entertainment and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) today unveiled the LECOM Student All-Stars Program, one of several new educational initiatives that LECOM is presenting as part of an expanded partnership with the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Beauts. Public comment sought on Erie County parks master plan

The Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, in conjunction with the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, announced a public comment period to solicit public input on the updated Erie County parks master plan. The plan was initiated in 2016 and is intended to create a framework for preservation, enhancement and improvement of existing parks assets and landscape settings over the next 15-20 years.

DEC announces complete shutdown of coke oven production at Tonawanda Coke facility

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation continues to oversee the safe shutdown of operations at the Tonawanda Coke facility. The coke battery consists of 60 ovens, of which 30 remained in operation at the time of shutdown. On Monday, the last of the remaining 30 ovens were fully emptied, marking the end of coke production at the facility.

The 2018 Lewiston Walk to End Alzheimer's began at Artpark on Saturday morning. Despite threatening skies, the rain stopped and the sun came out just in time for the event to begin.
