St. Peter's students have lunch with Santa

Last Saturday, St. Peter's School hosted a special luncheon with Santa Claus. Students mixed and mingled with ol' Kris Kringle as families enjoyed a full pasta meal, courtesy of the Macri family and Macri's Italian Grille.

Friday night, the Niagara-Wheatfield hockey team faced off against their arch-rival Williamsville North, in a rematch of last season's Section VI large schools championship. A lot has changed since that title game, which the Falcons won, 2-0, but in the rematch at Northtown Center, the Spartans took advantage of a bad second period by N-W to get revenge, 5-3.
Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign falling behind statewide, in need of help

The Salvation Army Empire State Division provided nearly 4 million meals to individuals and families who needed it most, thanks to so many who generously gave to last year's annual Red Kettle Campaign. Funds raised through the kettles are essential to support services such as meal programs, emergency disaster services, youth character development, and other services designed to lift people out of poverty.

AAA urges drivers to safely secure Christmas trees

Real or artificial? A AAA survey found an estimated 20 million Americans who purchased a real Christmas tree in the past three years did not properly secure it to their vehicle, risking serious vehicle damage and dangerous road debris. Vehicle damage that results from an improperly secured Christmas tree, such as scratched paint, torn door seals and distorted window frames, could cost up to $1,500 to repair. In addition to vehicle damage, Christmas trees that are not properly secured are a safety hazard for other drivers.

UB receives $2.2 million grant to test behavioral therapy as remedy for insomnia in cancer patients

NCCC statement regarding bomb threat

This afternoon, Niagara County Community College Public Safety and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office investigated a report of a bomb threat on campus after receiving an email threatening the college.  The investigation concluded there was no threat to the campus.  We have notified our campus community.

On the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 8, Niagara County Community College Public Safety received a radio transmission regarding a male down in one of the academic buildings on campus.  Upon responding to the call, campus security officers Linda Haner-Mele and Ryan Newton discovered multiple people already on scene assisting with the unresponsive individual.

Farm structure property tax exemption extended

NCSO K-9 Chief to get donation of body armor

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office K-9 Chief will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc. K-9 Chief's vest is sponsored by Pam, Corey and Todd Harmon of Lockport and will be embroidered with the sentiment "In memory of Chief Craig C. Harmon." Delivery is expected within eight to 10 weeks.

The Erie County Department of Health has confirmed a recent émigré treated at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital has been diagnosed with measles. This individual had visited multiple venues in Erie County, potentially exposing others to measles from Dec. 4-11.
