With the Lewiston Town Board on "summer status" - with one regular meeting held each month and no work sessions on the calendar until September - one would think the board's workload would lighten. That was not the case Monday, as a number of items were covered - including news on Modern Disposal's waste/recycling services for the community.

The days are fast approaching on the return of a long-time favorite on the lower Niagara River - the Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Cruise and Clambake. Now entering its 21st year (following a three-year hiatus due to COVID), the benefit event for Niagara Hospice will take place starting at 2 p.m. Friday, July 14, on the water, and on shore at the Youngstown Yacht Club.

Registration is now open for Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University's Kids 'n Arts Camp, a unique art and theater-fused five-week program entering its 19th year. Camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, July 10 to Aug. 11. Participants ages 5-12 can attend one or more weeks of camp. Child care is available before and after camp hours.

The female victim from the shooting that occurred on Monday, June 26, at 4:30 p.m. on 19th Street in Niagara Falls has died as a result of her injuries. The victim is identified as 18-year-old McKenzie Munt of the Tuscarora Indian Reservation.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 20-year-old Vincent Manirakiza of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of manslaughter in the second degree (class "C" violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge under the theory of accomplice liability for his role in a homicide that occurred last year.
