NBC's promising new competition series "The Voice" (working title) announces open auditions in cities across America beginning Jan. 14, 2011. As previously announced, NBC has teamed up with hit-making reality show pioneers John de Mol, Mark Burnett and Warner Horizon Television to bring Holland's top-rated vocal talent discovery show, "The Voice of Holland," to America in spring 2011.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, Grand Island Fire Co. firefighters responded to a Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority Metro bus fire at 2850 Grand Island Blvd. Nineteen passengers made their way to safety and were provided with temporary shelter at the nearby Riverwood Health Care Center, according to GIFC Chief Greg Butcher.

Patrick House, a 28-year-old sales representative from Vicksburg, Miss., won NBC's "The Biggest Loser" and $250,000 at the live season 10 finale of the popular series. Patrick began season ten weighing 400 lbs. and lost 181 lbs. Weighing in at finale at 219 lbs., Patrick lost 45.25 percent of his body weight to claim the prize.

ReNU Niagara, a community outreach program of Niagara University, is adding to its repertoire of programs thanks to a $27,374 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo. The grant will enable ReNU Niagara and its community partners, the Niagara Falls Housing Authority, Sustainable Earth Solutions and Niagara Falls Weed and Seed, to implement a GreenRoots Leadership Development Program aimed at building a youth and adult sustainable resident leadership base in Niagara Falls to help reduce existing demographic disparities.
