Niagara County Parks and Recreation reports that two popular winter venues on opposite ends of Niagara County will be open beginning Sunday, Dec. 19.

Ice rinks at Bond Lake Park in Lewiston and Krull Park in Olcott will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily including weekends, weather permitting. Additionally, Bond Lake Park's popular tubing hill will be open weekends and holidays only, from 11 a.m. to dusk. The tubing hill is available for use by inflatable tubes only.

Cross-country skiing trails will also be open at Bond Lake Park, although no ski rentals are available.

County lawmakers representing the areas served by the parks were pleased to see the facilities open.

"Krull Park is an important resource for families in Eastern Niagara County," said Legislator John Syracuse, R-Newfane. "Our park system offers four-season no-cost outlets for our youth, and I know the kids will be glad to have the opportunity to work on their hockey skills."

Legislator John D. Ceretto, R-Lewiston, who will be departing the County Legislature to take a seat in the State Assembly in January, 2011, was also pleased by the news.

"This year has seen the state government fail to open state parks on schedule and do a dismal job maintaining our parks," Ceretto noted. "I'm proud our county's Parks and Recreation Department continues to provide quality services and quality parks. Whether it's tubing, skiing, or skating, Bond Lake Park really is offering something for everyone."
