St. John's Episcopal Church, overlooking the Niagara River on Main Street in Youngstown, will hold its annual Strawberry Fest on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16, from noon to 4 p.m. Homemade strawberry shortcake along with grilled foods and salads will be served and a theme basket auction will be held.

Three Lewiston gardens have been selected for inclusion in the annual National Garden Festival sponsored, in part, by Visit Buffalo Niagara. In the past, gardens have been located in the Buffalo area, but with the formation of the Niagara Trail of gardens, nine Niagara County gardens will be showcased.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced an agreement between New York state and the Seneca Nation of Indians that resolves a multi-year dispute between the state and the nation. With this agreement, the state of New York recognizes and reconfirms the exclusivity of Seneca casino operations in the Western New York region, and the Seneca Nation agrees to resume payments and to make pro-rated repayments for past amounts that were in dispute.

KidBiz will give young entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn various aspects of running a business. Topics such as pricing, marketing and customer service were covered at a training event.

Islander Justin Hoffman and Hospice Buffalo have joined for two Hoffspice fundraisers, one set for Sept. 14 at the Grand Island VFW that will include food and entertainment. The second is the upcoming Hoffspice Golf Classic on Monday, June 17, at the River Oaks Golf Club, 201 Whitehaven Road, beginning at 2 p.m. Admission to the event is $120, with all proceeds to support Hospice Buffalo.

The golf event will include 18 holes of golf with a cart (a four-man scramble format), lunch, dinner, a long drive contest, a closest-to-the-pin contest, a 50/50 split raffle and a Chinese auction.

Niagara Wine Trail expansion approved by Legislature

State Sen. George Maziarz, R-C-Newfane, announced today that both chambers of the State Legislature approved legislation (S.1095-A) to expand and rename the Niagara Wine Trail system. The new configuration will extend the trail in Niagara County, Orleans County and Western Monroe County, encompassing more wineries than ever before.
