St. Timothy to host health forum

Grisanti to hold office hours

The annual Christmas luncheons sponsored by the Grand Island Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7, at noon at River Lea, in Beaver Island State Park.
Veterans Day services Nov. 11

The Town of Grand Island will honor veterans of past military campaigns during the annual Veterans Day program. This year, the town will honor veterans of the Cold War, Iraq War and Afghanistan War.

Veterans, family members, and friends are invited to attend the program on Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at Veterans Park, located at 1717 Bedell Road. Each Veteran will receive a memento.

Grand Island veterans are asked to notify the Recreation Department if they will attend the program on Nov. 11, or if a veteran will be represented by a family member.

NYPA Power Vista celebrates 7 million visitors, honors builders Oct. 28

The New York Power Authority will recognize the "Hard Hats of Niagara" on Monday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m., at the Power Vista, the visitors center for the Niagara Hydroelectric Plant. The occasion will mark the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Power Vista and will mark the attendance milestone of welcoming 7 million visitors since the facility first opened its doors in 1963.

At the event, representatives of NYPA senior management will honor the "Hard Hats of Niagara," a group of former construction workers who built the power plant and the Power Vista.

DEC extends public comment period on proposed LNG regulations for 30 days

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has extended the public comment period on proposed regulations (6 NYCRR Part 570) to set criteria for the construction and operation of new liquefied natural gas facilities under DEC permits, Commissioner Joe Martens announced. The proposed regulation would require permits for facilities that store LNG or convert it back to a gas.
Gallivan sponsors legislation to shine light on pay-to-play in Albany

The Buffalo Sabres have announced the team will again take part in the NHL Hockey Fights Cancer program during the team's home game, presented by ECMC, on Monday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m., against the Dallas Stars. As part of an NHL-wide initiative to raise money and awareness for cancer research, the Sabres will be hosting events throughout the night with the help of local cancer patients and their charitable organizations.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced the availability of the final version of the Niagara Gorge Corridor Project public scoping report, including the northern portion of the Robert Moses Parkway between downtown Niagara Falls and the Village of Lewiston. Meanwhile, final design for the southern portion of the Robert Moses Parkway is expected to begin shortly.

The competition continues as eight remaining celebrities perform two new routines on "Dancing with the Stars," Monday, Oct. 28 (8-10:01 p.m.). The night will begin with an opening number choreographed by Emmy-nominated choreographer Mandy Moore. The competition will then be split into two rounds.
NT: Historic Riviera Theatre marquee restoration project to begin with removal of marquee from theater

The Historic Riviera Theatre and Performing Arts Center will begin the planned historic marquee restoration project with the removal of the historic 1947 Marquee Monday, Oct. 28 (weather permitting). The removal should take two days. Temporary signage will be in place during the restoration project. The Riviera Theatre will be open during the restoration project, which is scheduled for completion in early 2014.

Under the direction of general contractor Peyton Barlow Co., the Wagner Electric Sign Company of Elyria, Ohio, will begin the formal restoration of the theater's marquee by removing it from the building and transporting it to its factory.
