Conditions were ideal for Plentiful Partnership of Niagara, a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension Niagara, to field glean at Tom Tower's Farm. Fifty-five bushels of tomatoes (2,750 pounds) were gleaned (picked) by 21 "Glean Team" volunteers and distributed by Plentiful Partnership of Niagara to area food pantries and soup kitchens.

New York Sea Grant has announced the publication of "Dogs and Harmful Algal Blooms." Harmful algal blooms, especially in the state's fresh water, are overgrowths of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) that cause water quality problems in lakes and ponds, including the occasional production of potent toxins. These toxins can poison people, household pets, waterfowl and livestock.

The Western New York Power Proceeds Allocation Board has recommended $1 million in funding to four Western New York enterprises: City Labs Inc., Cobey Inc., Higher One Inc. and the WNY Women's Foundation Inc. In total, the latest projects recommended for funding awards are expected to create 158 jobs, result in investments by project applicants of more than $14 million, and ensure the long-term economic success of entities in Western New York.
The recommendations are expected to be considered by the New York Power Authority board of trustees at its Oct. 15 board meeting.
