New York Attorney General Letitia James recently issued a consumer alert, warning New Yorkers about the rise of package theft and providing tips to protect consumers from porch pirates (or those who steal packages from people's homes). Package theft increases during the holiday season. James encourages all New Yorkers to take steps to protect their deliveries and report instances of theft to local law enforcement.

When I took office on Jan. 1, 2016, I quickly learned that the current town and village police contract, which had been signed in 1995, had never been updated. There were several attempts by previous town and village boards to do so, but it was never finished. Although the original contract never officially "expired," it was meant to be renegotiated approximately every five years.

It distributed the profits from a successful theatrical production of "The Odd Couple" to help the less-fortunate.
