On Dec. 10, the Rotary Club of Lewiston/Niagara-on-the-Lake held its annual Christmas party at the Lewiston Stone House. It distributed the profits from a successful theatrical production of “The Odd Couple” to help the less-fortunate. Recipients included HART (Home Assistance Referral Team); Care and Share food pantry; Heart, Love & Soul food pantry; and Messiah Lutheran Church.
In addition, Paul Harris Fellowships – the highest award that can be given at the Rotary Club Level – were awarded to Rotarian Frank Scelsa and Club President Ron Danielewicz.
These two recipients transformed a nascent idea into reality; involved members of the community who had previously never been involved in a Rotary project; brought recognition to and improved the presence of our Rotary Club in the community; worked diligently in a project that required enormous outlay of time and attention to detail; and were personally present and responsible for an extended period of time.
In honor of each recipient, The Rotary International Foundation will allocate funds that will be used to prevent or ameliorate suffering in the world, improve maternal and child health, eliminate or ameliorate poverty, improve sanitation, promote world peace, and resolve conflict.
The awardees are joining a select group. Previous recipients have included United Nations directors, humanitarians such as Mother Teresa, and Nobel Prize winners.
