The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will be collecting information about colony loss in the honey industry throughout the U.S. The next quarterly colony loss survey will be conducted during April. It will collect information about colony inventory and loss from more than 400 producers with honeybee colonies in the northeastern region.

Requests from both attendees and exhibitors for evening hours have been heard so, for the first time, this year the show hours on Wednesday will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with an attendee/exhibitor mixer taking place on the show floor beginning at 5:30 p.m. Show hours on Thursday are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The New York State Police announced Troopers issued more than 11,800 tickets during a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement period over Super Bowl Weekend. During the campaign which started Friday, Feb. 10, and ran through Monday, Feb. 13, Troopers arrested 183 people for DWI, and investigated 490 crashes, which resulted in 73 people being injured and four fatalities.

In partnership with the Land Trust Alliance, a total of $1.35 million in grant funding is available for DEC to award to eligible, accredited land trusts to purchase conservation easements on forested land for the purpose of protecting these lands from future development.

"The governor announced in a policy bulletin that more than 10,000 unrepresented state employees will be eligible to receive 12 weeks of fully paid leave to use for bonding with a newborn, fostered or adopted child. The majority of employees will be able to take leave starting today."

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced $7.6 million is available to support animal shelters and humane societies in making "critical upgrades" at New York's animal shelters. This is the fifth round of funding for New York State's Companion Animal Capital Fund, the first state-funded program in the nation to provide for shelter improvement projects. Funded projects will enhance animal care and help to ensure adoptions for New York's dogs and cats.
